Korean skincare routine: the order that actually matters

Forget the 10-step myth. Most Koreans use four or five steps. Here is the order, what each step does, and the product Korean Hwahae users rank #1 for each step today.

1. Cleanse

Oil or balm at night to remove sunscreen, then a foam or gel cleanser. In the morning one gentle cleanser is enough.

2. Toner

A hydrating toner right after washing, by hand or on a cotton pad. Toner pads with PHA can replace it a few times a week.

3. Serum or essence

One targeted treatment: niacinamide for tone and oil, centella or heartleaf for redness, vitamin C for dullness.

4. Moisturizer

Seal everything in. Gel cream if you are oily, a ceramide cream if you are dry.

5. Sunscreen (morning)

SPF50+ PA++++ every morning, even indoors near windows. This is the step Koreans never skip.

Optional extras
